Horse Racing Betting Markets Available at Bally Bet

Here's a look at the main markets you'll find at Bally Bet and how each one works:

Each-Way

The most popular way to bet on horse racing, and for good reason.

An each-way bet is two bets in one: half your stake on the horse winning, half on it placing in the top few positions (how many depends on the number of horses running). If your selection wins, both parts of the bet pay out. If it places, you collect on the place portion at a fraction of the win odds.

In big festival fields where the favourite doesn't always come home, each-way betting can be one way to find value.

Win

Back a horse to finish first. The purest form of backing your judgement. If your selection crosses the line in front, you get paid.

Ante-Post

Get ahead of the market. Ante-post betting lets you back a horse days, weeks or months in advance of race day, typically at higher odds before the market shortens.

The closer things get to the off, the more the price reflects a book’s confidence. Backing early can sometimes mean better potential payouts.

Forecast & Reverse Forecast

Call the first and second horse home in the correct order with a forecast bet, or cover both finishing combinations with a reverse forecast bet.

Higher odds can mean higher rewards for those who read the race well.

Each-Way Accumulator

Merge selections across multiple races into one bet. Every selection needs to win or place for the bet to fully land, but the returns can be significant for a relatively small stake.

A festival favourite.

In-Play Betting

Live odds that move with the race. React as the field settles, the pace develops and the finishers emerge. All in real time.

Head to our horse racing hub to see the full range of markets for each meeting.

How Horse Racing Betting Works

New to horse racing betting? Here's what you need to know.

Understanding the Odds

Odds tell you two things: how likely a horse is to win and how much you stand to collect if it does.

Short odds (like 4/7) indicate a market favourite, meaning lower risk and lower return. Longer odds (17/2) reflect a less favoured runner, meaning the risk is higher, but so is the potential payout if the bet lands.

In horse racing, odds move a lot. Markets shift as money comes in, late scratchings (horses that withdraw from a race late) are confirmed or going conditions change. Getting across why odds move is part of reading the race and part of getting ahead of it.

Win Bets, Place Bets, Each-Way Bets and Accumulators

A win bet is straightforward enough: back your horse to finish first, and if it does, you get paid. A place bet is a wager on a horse finishing in the top few positions, typically top 2, 3 or 4 depending on the field size and race type

The popular each-way bet splits your stake across those two bet types (to win and to place). If your selection wins, both parts pay out. If it places, you collect on the place portion.

A horse racing accumulator combines selections from multiple races into one bet. Every horse needs to win for the accumulator to land, but the odds multiply with each addition, meaning a small stake can return a significant sum if it does.

How to Place a Bet on Horse Racing

Choose your meeting, select your market, decide your stake and confirm your bet. Once placed, your stake is locked in. If your selection wins, your returns are calculated at the odds available when you placed the bet.

Most racing markets settle once the official result is confirmed. Ante-post bets settle closer to race day, after the final declarations are made.

What Happens If You Win

Your winnings are added to your account as soon as the result is in. You can then cash out to your bank or keep it in play. The call is yours.

HORSE RACING BETTING FAQs
Yes. Our welcome offer covers horse racing, so your first steps on the card can come with a boost. Check the Terms page for everything you need to know.
An each-way bet is two bets in one: a win bet and a place bet, split equally. If your horse wins, both parts pay. If it places but doesn't win, you still collect on the place portion.
A place bet pays out if your selection finishes inside a set number of positions, usually the top two, three or four depending on the field size. Lower risk than backing a winner outright, lower return to match.
